Hoovervilles
Many people blamed President Hoover for the great depression happening. He said that the depression would last for 60 days, when really it lasted for 12 years! President Hoover got blamed during this time and many people pointed their fingers at him for the depression and the crash in the stock market. That's where the name Hooverille came from. Hooverville was the name for shanty towns that were built by homeless people during the great depression. In these Hoovervilles, the houses were just little shacks. They were built out of things that people found laying around. Most of the people starved because there wasn't enough food and they were packed with so many people because millions of people became poor during the depression.
