Charles Lindbergh made the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean on May 20 1927. He did this with his own plane that he made called the "Spirit of St. Louis". Charles Lindbergh flew for 33 1/2 hours and safely landed his plane in Paris. He was nicknamed Lucky Lindy, Slim, and the Lone Eagle. Because of this awesome accomplishment, Charles was given the Congressional Medal of Honor. People in every state paraded for him and his bravery. Charles Lindbergh got offered millions of dollars for his success, but he denied it. He really was an inspiration to many people and was truly and American hero.

Red Grange was a famous football player who played for the University of Illinois. He was nicknamed "The Galloping Ghost" because in one of his games he scored 5 touchdowns. Red Grange was an outstanding football player and in 2008 was named the best college football player of all time by ESPN. After college, Red Grange went on to the NFL where he played for the Chicago Bears. Grange had a very successful NFL career and even led the Bears into a championship in 1933.

Since Gertrude Ederle made this accomplishment, it motivated many other women to accomplish what they wanted and to follow their dreams.

Babe Ruth had a record of 714 home runs that was unbroken for 40 years. In 1927 he set a record of 60 home runs in one season. Because of all his success, Babe Ruth was one of the first five players elected into the hall of fame.
